India announces its 15-player World Cup squad.

On Tuesday, September 5, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) announced the squad.

Rohit Sharma will serve as the team's captain, with Hardik Pandya serving as his assistant.

Ahead of their World Cup opener against Australia in Chennai on October 8, KL Rahul has joined the group, which is arguably the biggest news.

Rahul had a thigh injury during the IPL earlier this year, but he has since been training at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy and has passed all of his fitness tests. He has departed for Sri Lanka to join his Indian teammates in preparation for their Asia Cup Super 4 match against Pakistan.

Sanju Samson isn't on the team because Rahul is, and Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna are the other absences.

Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan are all included in the batting group, which is led by captain Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan offers a second keeping option. In order to provide more batting alternatives, all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur have also been picked.

Jasprit Bumrah leads the bowling unit after returning without any signs of an injury, with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj most likely making up the first-choice pace unit. The team's top spin option is Kuldeep Yadav.

Any changes to the squad must be approved by the ICC after all teams have till September 28 to make any changes.
